Jinapor Inspects 2,500 2,500 uncleared ECG containers Tema Harbour

Tema, Ghana - 24 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Energy Minister, Hon. John Abdulaya Jinapor, has conducted an emergency inspection of the Temos Harbour, where approximately 2,500 containers of critical energy materials have been left stranded, accumulating a staggering GHS 1.5 billion in demurrage charges.

The containers, purchased by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under the previous administration, contain essential materials for the country's energy sector. However, due to alleged lapses in resource management and inter-agency coordination, the containers have been stuck at the harbour, resulting in significant financial losses.

Minister Jinapor has expressed deep concern over the issue, describing it as "unacceptable" and pledging to take immediate action to clear the containers. The Minister emphasized the need for efficient management of public resources to advance Ghana's developmental objectives.

The incident has raised questions about the management of Ghana's energy sector and the use of public resources. The Ministry of Energy has assured the public that steps will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
