Ghana's Energy and Green Transition Ministry Gets GHS 1.2bn Boost for 2025

Accra, Ghana - 26 March, 2025 - Ghana's Parliament has allocated a substantial GHS 1.2 billion to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition for the 2025 fiscal year, marking a significant investment in the country's energy sector.
This funding is expected to drive key initiatives aimed at enhancing electricity distribution and promoting Ghana's transition to renewable energy sources.
The Ministry, led by Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has outlined ambitious objectives for 2025, including the procurement and installation of one million smart meters under the Programme for Results policy. This initiative is anticipated to significantly improve efficiency and service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.
In addition, the Ministry plans to introduce private sector participation in the electricity distribution sector, leveraging expertise and investment to enhance the overall quality of service. The Accra-Kumasi transmission line project is also slated to commence, aiming to improve power supply reliability between the two major cities.
Furthermore, the Government Goes Solar project will be implemented, promoting clean and sustainable energy solutions in line with Ghana's commitment to addressing climate change. This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to prioritize green transition and sustainable development.
