Accra, Ghana - 29 April, 2025 - Ghana is set to experience a 14.75% electricity tariff hike from May 3, 2025, with Minister of Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor urging citizens to exercise patience, citing the move's importance in stabilizing the energy sector.

According to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the tariff review is a strategic measure aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the nation's power supply and supporting ongoing reforms within the sector.

Minister Jinapor highlighted the importance of this decision during a meeting for the West African Gas Pipeline Project in Accra, stressing that stable and reliable power sources are essential for the country's economic development.

The Minister acknowledged that the decision may be difficult for some, but urged Ghanaians to bear with the government as it works to ensure a stable energy sector.

“I want to appeal to Ghanaians and the general consuming public to bear with us, even as we make some of these difficult but unavoidable decisions to ensure that we have stable and reliable power sources for our economic development.''

The upcoming tariff adjustment is part of broader efforts to address the challenges facing Ghana's energy sector and promote economic growth.
