NPA Assures Public of Adequate Fuel Supply Amid Shortages

Accra, Ghana - 11 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has moved to calm concerns over reported petrol shortages in the northern regions, assuring the public that a comprehensive solution is underway.

Following an emergency meeting of the Technical Committee on Energy, the NPA has devised a three-pronged approach to address the logistical challenges behind the shortages.

According to a statement, the NPA will grant special dispensation to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to load petrol from the Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) depot in Kumasi to supply retail outlets in the northern regions. Additionally, OMCs will be permitted to load extra petrol from depots in Tema to augment supplies from Kumasi.

To further address the issue, nine million litres of petrol will be transferred from the Buipe and Bolgatanga depots to storage facilities in Bolgatanga, ensuring immediate supply to retail outlets.

The NPA has urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying, emphasizing that adequate fuel stocks are available in the country.

“Consequently, we wish to encourage the consuming public to go about their normal business and avoid panic buying,'' portions of the statement read.
