IMF to Closely Monitor Ghana's Cedi Performance in Future Reviews

Washington D.C, USA - 14 June, 2025 - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has signaled that it will closely scrutinize Ghana's recent currency gains in its future assessments of the country's economic reform program.
The cedi has made significant strides against major foreign currencies in recent weeks, bucking the trend of steady decline.
According to Julie Kozack, IMF Communications Director, the Fund will carefully evaluate the cedi's performance as part of its ongoing monitoring of Ghana's economic indicators. "As we look at the program, we assess all developments, including the exchange rate," Kozack said during a press briefing in Washington. "Future program reviews will allow our teams to carefully evaluate the evolving macroeconomic and financial conditions and confirm whether the program's targets remain appropriate and achievable."
The cedi's recent gains have been attributed to renewed investor confidence and improved foreign exchange inflows. However, market analysts caution that sustaining these gains will require continued fiscal discipline and robust implementation of reforms under the IMF-supported program.
