Jean Mensa to Face Parliament Over Delayed Ablekuma North Results

Accra, Ghana - 14 June, 2025 - Ghana's parliamentary spotlight is firmly fixed on the Electoral Commission (EC) as Jean Mensa, the EC Chairperson, is set to face lawmakers next week over the prolonged delay in declaring the winner of the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat, with the results still hanging precariously in the balance despite the elections having taken place weeks ago.
The move comes after the Minority Caucus petitioned the Ghana Police Service last week, requesting security for the EC to finalize the process. The petition highlights the growing pressure on the EC to resolve the electoral deadlock.
According to Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, the EC Chair will face a Committee of the Whole to answer two key questions related to the Ablekuma North impasse.
“The Electoral Commission will be asked two questions, so the EC Chair will appear before the committee of the whole to answer two questions,” Ayariga stated on the floor of parliament on Friday June 13.
This development underscores Parliament's commitment to ensuring the EC's accountability and transparency in the electoral process.
In a related development, Parliament will also receive briefings from two Ministers on Wednesday, June 18. The Ministers for the Interior and for Works, Housing and Water Resources will provide updates on the recent flooding incidents across the country and the measures being taken to mitigate the situation.
