IGP Meets with Gunshot Victims and Community Leaders in Bawku to Mend Fences After Violent Clashes

Bawku, Upper East Region, Ghana - 13 April, 2025 - Ghana's Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has visited Bawku to assess the security situation and mend relations with the local youth.

The visit follows a violent confrontation between police and youths on April 10, which resulted in fatalities and injuries.

During his visit, the IGP met with injured victims, interacted with police personnel, and paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Bawku, Zugraan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.

The IGP expressed regret over the death of Fuseini Iddrisu and called for support from the Overlord and his elders to resolve the impasse. He assured the community of the police's readiness to work with them to ensure peace and security.

The police team also visited various locations, including the Police Training School at Nangode and the District Police Headquarters in Bawku, to engage with officers and stakeholders.

The police have assured that the IGP and his team will continue to work with the chiefs, opinion leaders, and the people of Bawku to improve relations and bring lasting peace to the area.
