Mahama Launches Feed Ghana Programme to Create Jobs and Strengthen Agro-Industry
Techiman, Bono East Region, Ghana - 13 April, 2025 - President John Dramani Mahama has launched the "Feed Ghana Programme" in Techiman, aiming to revolutionize Ghana's agricultural sector and bolster the country's economic resilience.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy called the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA), designed to modernize and expand agriculture, creating jobs, reducing food inflation, and ensuring long-term food security.
The programme focuses on increasing food production, promoting modern farming practices, improving agricultural infrastructure, and establishing agro-industrial zones across the country.
Mahama emphasized the need for bold action to reposition agriculture at the heart of Ghana's development agenda, citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global trade and food systems.
“Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world has shifted. Global protectionism is rising. Tariff wars are being waged among the world powers, and new trade tensions are emerging between nations,” he said during the launch of the programme on April 12.
“It represents a bold commitment to put our resources where our ambitions lie,” he concluded.
He noted that rising protectionism and trade tensions necessitate a rethinking of national food strategies.
The Feed Ghana Programme is expected to serve as an umbrella framework for implementing agricultural projects and interventions, demonstrating the government's commitment to investing in the sector's potential.
Mahama stressed that this initiative represents a bold commitment to putting resources behind the country's ambitions.
“Mr. Chairman, the time has come for bold and decisive actions. We must no longer treat agriculture as an afterthought. Agriculture must be placed at the center of our national economic transformation,” he stated.
