Two Police officers remanded for stealing GH¢3,700

Accra, Ghana - An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two off-duty police constables, General Lance Corporals Philmon Agbevem and Peter Kwame Badagbor, in custody for allegedly attacking an Okada rider and stealing GH¢3,700.

The accused, stationed at the Accra Central District Police Command, have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery. They denied all charges through their counsel, Andy Vortia.

According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kofi Anane, the complainant, Emmanuel Amertodor, an Okada rider from Adenta, was apprehended by the off-duty police officers on July 21, 2024, on suspicion of stealing a purse.

The officers allegedly subjected Amertodor to severe beatings, handcuffed him, and forcibly transferred GH¢3,700 from his phone to another phone registered in the name of Hope Alorvordzi.

They also took GH¢120 from him.

The complainant reported the incident to the Police at Cantonments and later to the Criminal Investigations Department, Headquarters, leading to the accused's arrest on August 8, 2024.

The accused will appear before the court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah on September 10, 2024.
