Ghana's Chief Imam Congratulates Mahama, Calls for Unity
Ghana's National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his election victory, praising his resilience and dedication to serving the nation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, the Chief Imam expressed hope that Mahama's leadership would strengthen Ghana's constitutional rule and promote good governance.
He also commended Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for graciously accepting the election results, describing his concession as a demonstration of patriotism and humility.
The Chief Imam's message comes as Ghana solidifies its reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa. The country's 2024 elections were largely peaceful, with the Ghanaian populace playing a significant role in promoting calm and stability.
However, the Chief Imam also expressed concern over isolated incidents of post-election violence, urging all parties to refrain from such actions. He emphasized that violence is not a solution to electoral disputes and called for a peaceful transition of power.
“The victory of the former President is a reflection of his resilience and perseverance in pursuit of service to country and humanity,” he said.
“This is, indeed, a dignifying act worthy of emulation in the interest of democratic consolidation,” parts of the statement read.
