It's time for Jean Mensa to go - Joyce Bawah Mogtari
A high-ranking aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called for the resignation of Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa, citing incompetence and partisanship in the Commission's handling of the recent elections.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari, special aide to the President-elect, expressed disappointment in the EC's performance, stressing the need for comprehensive reforms to restore public trust.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s 'Face to Face' programme on Tuesday, December 10, Mogtari pointed to the delay in declaring election results as a contributing factor to pockets of violence across the country.
“I was thinking that the EC Chairperson was going to resign yesterday. Yes, absolutely… They have been incompetent to say the least. There are too many partisans there. The arm twisting. When the will of the people is up against you, there is nothing you can do,” Mogtari stated.
“One of the reasons we have these pockets of violence even is that it took too long for the EC to declare the result… In her (Jean Mensa) place, I would have. Like she said it is finished, it should be finished for her as well''.
“Everything to do with the EC needs a complete reform,” she added.
