Ghana to Soon Launch Labour Export Programme for Job Creation - Mahama

Accra, Ghana - 02 May, 2025 - President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme, aimed at creating job opportunities for Ghanaian youth through international employment partnerships.

Speaking to residents in the Ahafo Region during his Thank You tour, President Mahama revealed that the government is in advanced talks with several countries facing labour shortages to enable Ghanaians to work abroad on fixed-term contracts. 

The initiative will span multiple industries, such as agriculture, construction, healthcare, hospitality, and logistics, targeting skilled professionals like electricians, nurses, chefs, and machine operators for international job opportunities.

“We will soon launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme. There are labour shortages in many countries across the world. We are negotiating with several of those countries to export some of our professionals to work on fixed-term contracts abroad,” President Mahama announced.

The President revealed that a deal has been inked with one nation to send 2000 temporary workers abroad, with a commitment to fair selection processes that will include all 16 regions. This move aims to tackle unemployment and equip Ghanaian youth with international work experience.

“A contract has been signed with one country for the export of 2000 temporary workers. Young qualified people will be selected fairly from all the 16 regions of our country, including Ahafo,” he disclosed
