Ofosu Ampofo Named Board Chairman of COCOBOD

Accra, Ghana - 16 May, 2025 - The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has a new 11-member Board of Directors, tasked with turning around the fortunes of the struggling cocoa sector.
Led by Chairman Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the board includes key stakeholders such as Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama.
At the inauguration ceremony, Energy Minister John Jinapor, who also serves as Alternate Minister for Finance, expressed concern over the sector's decline, citing a significant drop in crop production from 1 million metric tonnes to 500,000 metric tonnes.
However, he expressed confidence in the new board's ability to restore COCOBOD's former glory.
The government has outlined plans to boost production, including introducing plantation farms on 200 hectares of cocoa land. Finance Minister Dr. Forson tasked the board to address issues such as diseased cocoa farms, particularly in the Western Region.
The new board has pledged to lead a transformational agenda for the cocoa sector, with Chairman Dr. Ampofo promising to "reset, retool, and reimagine" COCOBOD.
