Ghana Mourns: Gov’t Unveils Programme to Honour Helicopter Crash Victims
Accra ,August 6, 2025 - In a poignant display of respect and solidarity, President John Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, and other government officials gathered at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency to lay flowers and light candles in memory of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a recent helicopter crash.
The helicopter crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, while the victims were en route to Obuasi on an official assignment.
The Ghana Armed Forces has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
President Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, beginning Thursday, August 7, to pay tribute to the fallen statesmen and service members. During this period, all national flags will be flown at half-mast across the country in honour of the deceased.
The ceremony at the Ceremonial Garden serves as a testament to the government's commitment to honouring the memory of the victims and providing support to their families during this difficult time.
Meanwhile ,the Mahama administration has announced a detailed programme of activities for a three-day national mourning period, honouring the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The mourning period, which runs from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9, will feature a series of public memorial events, allowing citizens to express condolences, reflect on the national tragedy, and pay tribute to the departed.
- Thursday, August 7: Public laying of flowers and lighting of candles at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency, starting at 1:00 PM.
- Friday, August 8: Continuation of the flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony, providing additional opportunity for the public to pay their respects.
- Saturday, August 9: "Evening of Reflections and Memorials" at the Forecourt of the State House, starting at 5:00 PM, bringing together Ghanaians to reflect on the lives and contributions of the deceased.
The government has urged all citizens to observe the period of national mourning with dignity and respect, using these three days to collectively mourn and reflect on the profound loss experienced by the nation.
