Accra ,Ghana – October 23,2025 - Ghana has lost a trailblazing leader and champion of women's rights, as Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has passed away at the age of 76. Reports confirm that she died at the Ridge Hospital in Accra after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of empowerment, leadership, and dedication to social advocacy.

As the wife of late former President Jerry John Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings served as Ghana's First Lady from 1981 to 2001, using her platform to champion women's rights and empower communities across the country. She founded the 31st December Women's Movement in 1982, an initiative aimed at promoting women's entrepreneurship, education, and political participation.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a true pioneer, becoming the first woman to run for President of Ghana in 2016. Her leadership and vision inspired generations, and her commitment to social advocacy earned her widespread recognition and respect.

Born on November 17, 1948, in Cape Coast, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was educated at Ghana International School and Achimota School, where she met her future husband, Jerry John Rawlings. She went on to study Art and Textiles at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, becoming a student leader and laying the foundation for her future in politics and social advocacy.

Her passing has sent shockwaves across Ghana, with many taking to social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to her remarkable legacy.
