Former NPP Lawmaker Gifty Klenam Defects to NDC

Anlo, Volta Region, Ghana - 30 Jan, 2025 - Gifty Klenam, a former two-term Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, has defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This significant shift in Ghana's political landscape was made public on Thursday morning, as Klenam received her NDC membership card in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region.

Klenam, who served in the Fourth and Fifth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic, cited ideological alignment and confidence in the NDC's policy direction as the primary reasons for her defection. She expressed strong confidence in the NDC's 2024 manifesto, describing it as the most promising blueprint for Ghana's future development.

“Upon consultation with my family, I decided to join the NDC because it aligns with my values and vision for mother Ghana,” she stated.

In a statement, the former MP also praised former President John Dramani Mahama's leadership, believing it will lead the country toward progress and prosperity. Klenam emphasized her commitment to working closely with the NDC's grassroots, empowering local communities, and creating opportunities to prevent the mass migration of Ghanaian youth seeking better prospects abroad.
