Former Ledzokuku MP Benita Okity-Duah Appointed Free SHS Coordinator

Accra, Ghana - 20 March, 2025 - In a move aimed at strengthening the implementation of the government's free Senior High School (SHS) policy, former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Benita Sena Okity-Duah, has been appointed Coordinator of the Free SHS Secretariat.
Ms. Okity-Duah, who brings a wealth of experience in public service and education, is expected to play a key role in overseeing the rollout of the free SHS program, which has been instrumental in increasing enrollment in senior high schools across the country.
The appointment is seen as a strategic move by the government to bolster its education sector, which has been a key priority since taking office. With her unique blend of legislative and ministerial experience, Ms. Okity-Duah is well-positioned to drive the success of the free SHS initiative.
Okity-Duah's journey to this position is a testament to her diverse experience and dedication to public service. Born on June 19, 1976, in Anloga, Volta Region, she first gained national recognition as Miss Ghana 1997. She later pursued fashion studies at the London School of Fashion, establishing herself as a notable figure in Ghana's fashion industry upon her return in 2003.
Her foray into politics began with her victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries for the Ledzokuku Constituency, followed by her historic win in the 2012 parliamentary elections. Okity-Duah became the first Miss Ghana beauty queen to be elected as a Member of Parliament.
Her legislative tenure was marked by her service as Deputy Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection from April 2013 to June 2014.
