Ebi Bright Sworn in as First Female Mayor of Tema

Tema, Ghana - 09 May, 2025 -Ebi Bright, a Ghanaian actress-turned-politician, has been sworn in as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

She secured 28 votes in favor and 3 against from the assembly members. Bright's appointment comes with a vision to transform Tema into a thriving urban hub, aligning with President John Dramani Mahama's 24-hour economy initiative.

Bright expressed her gratitude to the President for entrusting her with the responsibility at her swearing-in ceremony on May 9.

She pledged to lead Tema into a new era of development, focusing on sustainability, industry, and social growth. Bright's leadership aims to make Tema an inclusive and dynamic city, where industrial revival and economic activities flourish around the clock.

“I’m profoundly grateful to H.E John Dramani Mahama for the confidence he has reposed in me and all the gallant men and women who make up his cabinet and advisers. And to the Honourable Assembly members and government appointees, for your endorsement,” she stated.

“It is my mission to lead Tema into a bold new chapter, one defined by purpose, service, and love. Transforming Tema into a sustainable, industrial, economic, and social powerhouse. My vision is to transform Tema into a sustainable, inclusive, and dynamic urban hub where industrial revival is thriving 24-hour economy,'' she added.

As the first female mayor of Tema, Bright's appointment has generated significant attention. Despite some initial concerns about her non-indigene status, her vision for the city's future has garnered support from many.
