School Feeding Programme Caterers to Petition Asantehene, Chief Imam Over Abrupt Contract Termination

Accra, Ghana - 09 May, 2025 - Caterers involved in the School Feeding Programme are seeking the intervention of traditional and religious leaders after their contracts were abruptly terminated by the government.

The caterers, who provide meals to students across the country, had their contracts terminated on May 2, 2025, with assurances of payment of outstanding arrears but no clear timeline for settlement or new contract awards.

In a bid to resolve the situation, the National School Feeding Caterers Association plans to petition influential figures, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the National Chief Imam, Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, to intervene on their behalf.

Madam Larbi revealed that petitions would be sent to these influential individuals, who would be asked to plead on behalf of the caterers. The move is seen as a last resort by the caterers, who are hoping for a favorable outcome that would allow them to continue their involvement in the programme.

“Our President said we have petitions to be sent. We’re trying to get in touch with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to intervene,'' she revealed in an interview on the  Eyewitness News on Citi FM.

“So, we’re trying to get him to go and plead on our behalf. We’re trying to go to the Chief Imam. Tomorrow [Friday, May 9], we have a lot to do to send some petitions to other influential individuals in the country to be able to speak on our behalf,” she stated.
