Gifty Oware Mensah Arrested Over NSA Payroll Fraud Allegations

Accra, Ghana - 09 March, 2025 - A former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority, Gifty Oware-Mensah, is currently in custody, facing allegations of payroll fraud.

As a high-ranking official and member of the Ghana Football Association Executive Council, her detention marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

Oware-Mensah's arrest is linked to a broader probe into financial irregularities within the National Service Authority, including the insertion of ghost names into the payroll system. The investigation has been ongoing, with several suspects reportedly fleeing the country in response to the exposé by The Fourth Estate.

She was arrested on Friday, March 7, 2025 and has been denied bail despite multiple attempts to secure her release.

The move is seen as part of a broader crackdown on corruption, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to take action against individuals implicated in the NSA fraud case.

The investigation has already led to the arrest of another former NSA official, Ohene Djan, who was apprehended in a dramatic raid at his residence. Several other suspects are reportedly on the run, having fled the country in the wake of the scandal.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian government has ordered the freezing of assets belonging to the fugitive suspects, pending further investigation.
