Double-Track System to Be Phased Out by 2027 - Haruna Iddrisu

Accra, Ghana - 09 April, 2025 - Ghana's Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced plans to abolish the Double-Track system in Senior High Schools by 2027.
The Double-Track system, which allows two batches of students to attend school in a single academic year, was introduced to address the growing number of students in the country.
Speaking with members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) at a meeting in Sunyani in the Bono Region, Iddrisu noted that to facilitate the transition, the government will implement key reforms, including updating the curriculum and restructuring the administration of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
According to him, these changes will ensure efficient management of resources and enhance school infrastructure nationwide.
The Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to investing in education and human capital development. According to him, the GETFund will continue to play a vital role in improving school infrastructure, ensuring that students have access to quality facilities and resources.
“We are working to revise the curriculum…If the government is to succeed in ending the double-track system, not later than Monday, you should have a board so that all expenditures are properly approved by the board,'' he stated.
“We expect that by the year 2027, the double-track system will be a thing of the past,” he added.
