Court Rules in Favor of James Gyakye Quayson, Ends Legal Battle

Accra, Ghana - 09 April, 2025 - Ghana's High Court has cleared James Gyakye Quayson, the Member of Parliament for Assin North, of charges related to dual citizenship.

The court's decision, delivered on April 9, 2025, brings an end to a lengthy legal battle that had cast a shadow over Quayson's parliamentary seat.

The case centered on allegations that Quayson had falsely declared his citizenship status when filing for the  and 2020 parliamentary elections. However, the court found that Quayson had taken steps to renounce his Canadian citizenship before submitting his nomination papers, and that his declaration of allegiance to Ghana was truthful.

The court's ruling was based on a thorough examination of the evidence presented, which revealed inconsistencies in the prosecution's case. The judge ultimately concluded that there was no basis for Quayson to defend himself against the charges.

With this verdict, Quayson is free to continue serving as a legislator without the burden of this legal challenge.
