Do not Present a Flagbearer in the nature of Akufo-Addo to Ghanaians again - Kpebu tells NPP

Accra, Ghana - 13 Feb, 2025 - A leading private legal practitioner and member of the anti graft commitee, the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), Martin Kpebu, urged Ghana's New Patriotic Party (NPP) to learn from its mistakes following its decisive defeat in the 2024 general elections.
In an interview on Channel One TV's The Point of View, Kpebu cited arrogance and poor governance as key factors contributing to the NPP's defeat. He emphasized the need for the party to adopt a more humble approach and avoid selecting future candidates with similar leadership traits to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“You guys did a good job in the election 2024, the whole year, Joy FM, Citi FM, and TV3 you did great, that is how come we kicked the NPP out for bad governance. I hope they will learn a lesson and come back better next time.
“You guys should go and learn governance, the arrogance was too much, the posturing, as if you were the only Ghanaians. Please learn, learn, don’t bring somebody in the nature of Akufo-Addo again,'' he added.
Kpebu's comments come amid growing calls for the NPP to engage in introspection and reform. The party's defeat has been attributed to various factors, including;
- Economic struggles: Rising inflation, currency depreciation, and a debt crisis took a toll on the economy, affecting the livelihoods of many Ghanaians.
- Corruption scandals: The Agyapa Royalties deal and other corruption allegations eroded public trust in the NPP administration.
- Youth unemployment: High unemployment rates among young people contributed to widespread frustration and disillusionment.
- Internal party divisions: Factionalism within the NPP weakened the party's unity and morale ahead of the 2024 elections.
