Mpraeso MP Backs Corruption Probe into Ken Ofori-Atta but Calls for Transparency

Accra, Ghana - 13 Feb, 2025 - Davis Ansah Opoku, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso and a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has backed the corruption probe into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta while calling for due processes to be followed.
At a press briefing on Wednesday Feb 12, 2025, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) who is leading the probe, declared Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile cases which includes allegations related to the National Cathedral Project and the Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) revenue engagement.
Opoku argued that if there is sufficient evidence to indicate wrongdoing, Ofori-Atta should face the law, however, he emphasized that the processes leading to that outcome must follow the rule of law and uphold the fundamental rights of every Ghanaian while speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, February 12.
“I am not here to defend anybody that the state feels has engaged in any wrongdoing. I mean, we are public officers and we are expected to govern with a certain dignity and so if there is sufficient evidence to indicate that the former Finance Minister has engaged in any wrongdoing, I believe that he ought to face the law and the due process must be followed.
“However, we strongly believe that the processes leading to that process ought to follow a particular rule of law. We need to uphold the fundamental rights of every Ghanaian, irrespective of your service or whether the Ghanaian people like you or not and that has been our position,'' he added.
