Accra, Ghana - 13 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has launched a withering attack on the record of Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Addo, describing his performance as "terrible".

The criticism comes after Ghana's disastrous campaign to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where the team finished bottom of their group without a single win.

In an interview with Accra-based Metro TV, Adams expressed bafflement at the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) decision to retain Addo as Head Coach despite the team's dismal performance.

"The data is very poor, in fact it's terrible. Looking at only the data, there is no way he [Otto Addo] should've stayed on," Adams said.

The GFA has made changes to the Black Stars' technical team, but Addo's retention has raised eyebrows. Adams hinted that financial considerations may have influenced the decision, but called for greater transparency from the GFA.

“The GFA took a decision to do away with those around him, but what was surprising was that the Head Coach was maintained.

“Maybe something informed that decision.

“It may be financial, but an engagement with the GFA will certainly let us know what led to that decision,” he added.

Ghana is set to face Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month, marking the team's first outing since the AFCON qualification debacle. The matches will be a crucial test for Addo and his team, as they seek to redeem themselves and restore pride to Ghanaian football.

The Black Stars' poor performance has sparked widespread criticism and debate among Ghanaian football fans, with many calling for Addo's dismissal. The Sports Minister's comments are likely to add to the pressure on Addo and the GFA to deliver results.
