Charles Forson Declared Winner in Tema Central After Chaotic Recount
Tema Central's parliamentary election results have been finalized, with Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) emerging victorious. This announcement comes after a brief interruption in the re-collation process, which was halted due to the absence of representatives from all political parties.
Earlier, tensions ran high as Ebi Bright, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, demanded a complete re-collation of votes from all polling stations. Bright insisted that the Electoral Commission (EC) start the process from scratch, citing a court order. The situation escalated when Bright and South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor expressed frustration over the EC's refusal to undertake a full re-collation, ultimately leading to their departure from the collation center in protest.
In related news, the Electoral Commission has confirmed Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the NPP as the winner of the Obuasi East constituency, with a narrow margin of 19 votes. Yiadom secured 18,558 votes, edging out Samuel Aboagye of the NDC, who garnered 18,539 votes.
An independent candidate, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, trailed behind with 424 votes. The re-collation process was conducted at the Greater Accra Electoral Commission Office, one of nine constituencies undergoing re-collation due to disputes over procedural irregularities during the initial tally.
