Association of Liberal Muslims-Ghana Congratulates Mahama, Calls for Inclusive Governance

Ghana's President-elect John Dramani Mahama has received congratulations from the Association of Liberal Muslims-Ghana (ALMG) following his victory in the 2024 presidential election.

The association praised Mahama's dedication, vision, and passion for the nation's greater good, expressing confidence in his leadership. ALMG also pledged its unwavering support as Mahama prepares to assume office on January 7, 2025.

In their statement signed by its leader, Alhaji Umar Harris, , ALMG highlighted key concerns of the Muslim community, urging the incoming administration to address them. These concerns include the immediate signing of the anti-LGBTQI bill, enactment of the Islamic Marriage and Divorce Bill, Hijab freedom in public offices, and reduction of Hajj fares.

ALMG leader Alhaji Umar Harris again emphasized that fulfilling these promises would reflect inclusivity and respect for the rights of all Ghanaians. The association expressed optimism about the future under Mahama's administration, wishing him success in leading the country towards progress and unity.

As you prepare to take office come January 7th, we want to assure you of my unwavering support. Your success is our collective success, and we’re committed to helping you achieve your goals. We, as a Muslim organisation are counting on you to deliver on your promises, more especially on the following promises.

1. The immediate signing of the Anti- LGBTQI Bill the outgoing president refused to assent to.

2. The enactment and implementation of the Islamic marriage and divorce Bill.

3. The absolute liberation of the Muslimah to wear her Hijab in public offices without intimidation and harassment.

4. Reduction of the exorbitant hajj fares.
