Brace Yourselves for More Heavy Rainfall - GMet to Ghanaians

Accra, Ghana - 20 May, 2025 - The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned of continued heavy and frequent rainfall in the coming days, following recent flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region.
The agency's Head of Central Analysis and Forecast Office, Felicity Ahafianyo, has advised residents in flood-prone areas to consider relocating, citing the high intensity and frequency of the seasonal downpours.
“When we came out with the seasonal forecast, we indicated that it is likely the intensity may be more or higher, and in terms of the frequency, too, it is something that we need to be abreast with. It has started already. As we witnessed yesterday along the coast,” she said.
The warning comes after a rainstorm triggered flooding in areas including Pantang, Nsawam, Lakeside, and Kasoa.
Ahafianyo noted in an interview on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, May 19, that the major rainy season has already begun in the southern sector, with similar events expected to continue until the season ends.
GMet has urged the public to be aware of the potential risks and take necessary precautions.
The agency is also calling on the media to support its efforts by regularly sharing weather updates to keep the public informed and prepared.
“When we came out with the seasonal forecast, we indicated that it is likely the intensity may be more or higher, and in terms of the frequency, too, it is something that we need to be abreast with. It has started already. As we witnessed yesterday along the coast,” she said.
“On Friday, we had a similar event in the Volta Region, where it also rained for more than an hour. This is how it is going to be until we end the major rainy season over the southern sector,” she added.
