Awutu Senya West MP Gizella Tetteh opposes relocation of Election Coalition Centre
A proposed change to the coalition centre for the 2024 elections in Ghana's Awutu Senya West constituency has sparked concerns among local leaders. The Awutu Bereku Durbar grounds has served as the coalition centre for the past eight elections, but the police have suggested relocating it to Awutu Winton Senior High School.
Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, has described the proposed move as "unfortunate" and warned that it could disrupt the peace in the area.
Speaking to local church leaders, Ms. Tetteh urged constituents to report any suspicious activity to the police to ensure swift action.
“We have done collation in the Awutu Durbar grounds for almost eight elections. Just last week we were invited by the police to the Regional Command and were told that the IGP is proposing a new venue, and this is the Awutu Bereku Durbar ground.
“My problem is why is the IGP proposing that venue since we all agreed to the Durbar grounds? It is not good for the peace we are enjoying now.
“In the last elections, there were some vigilante groups in Obrakyere to steal the ballot boxes but one of them was arrested and beaten by the angry mob. I want to urge you all to report any suspicious act to the police for onward action,'' she stated.
