NPP dismisses election rigging allegations
Accra, Ghana - Nov 20, 2024 - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has categorically denied allegations of colluding with military elements to manipulate the 2024 elections.
Sammy Gyamfi, National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), sparked the controversy by announcing plans to petition the Inspector General of Police over potential election rigging.
Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, swiftly responded, labeling the claims as baseless. He believes the NDC is grasping at straws, having already conceded defeat. Mohammed pointed out that similar accusations in 2016 and 2020 proved unfounded, with the NDC ultimately losing those elections.
Mohammed emphasized the NPP's focus on securing a legitimate victory through grassroots efforts. "Elections are won at the polling stations.
He expressed confidence in the NPP's triumph, despite the NDC's propaganda.
“The NDC clearly admits that they are losing the election, and they are finding every straw to hold on so that they tell supporters that this is the reason they lost the election. In 2016, 2020, they have made so many similar statements of us training people in places that we want to use to rig election and eventually, they went ahead to lose the election,” he said.
“What we do know is that the military is not the Electoral Commission ... I am not surprised that he came out to make this particular statement. It was completely a waste of Ghanaians' time.
“The elections are won at the polling stations so if they are so much interested in playing the game, they should go down to the grassroots and make sure they get their vote. I am very confident that the NPP is going to win the election no matter the lies and propaganda put out there,” he said.
