Mahama slams Bawumia for his 'irrelevant' counter-questions

Savelegu, Ghana - October 30, 2024 - The National Democratic Congress's (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has slammed Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to address pressing economic concerns.

Instead of providing direct answers, Bawumia responded with 50 counter-questions that Mahama deemed "irrelevant".

Mahama initially posed five key economic questions to Bawumia, focusing on critical areas such as:

- Exchange Rate Stability: Mahama asked Bawumia to explain the depreciation of the cedi under the NPP government.
- Rising National Debt: Mahama questioned the increased borrowing and lack of proportional improvement in infrastructure and public services.
- Inflation Control: Mahama sought solutions to tackle the rising cost of living affecting average Ghanaians.
- Job Creation and Unemployment: Mahama challenged Bawumia to outline clear solutions for job creation and tackling youth unemployment.
- Shift from Economic Management to Digitalization: Mahama criticized Bawumia's focus on digitalization efforts, arguing they don't address fundamental economic challenges.

Bawumia's counter-questions covered various topics, including economic management, social interventions, digitalization initiatives, and infrastructure. However, Mahama argued that these questions dodged the urgent economic concerns facing everyday Ghanaians.

Addressing supporters at Savalegu on Wednesday, October 30, Mahama stated; “I woke up this morning and saw 50 questions from him. It looks like our Vice President has just memorised these things like we used to learn poems in primary school.”

He added, “I asked you five simple questions that Ghanaians want you to answer, and instead, you respond with, ‘How many compost plants did you build?’ That’s not the issue in Ghana today.”

Mahama emphasized that a debate is not necessary to answer the five questions, stressing that Ghanaians simply want direct answers.

He also criticized Bawumia for avoiding economic issues, stating that the Vice President was appointed to fix the economy, which is now in a terrible state.
