Post-Election Violence: Police detain 9 suspects for burning EC office in Ayensuano
A wave of arrests has swept across Ghana as the police move to quell post-election violence. Nine individuals have been taken into custody in connection with an arson attack on the Electoral Commission's office in Ayensuano, Eastern Region.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, December 9, sparked widespread condemnation as protesters torched the facility, destroying electoral materials and devices used in the recent general elections.
Chief Inspector Priscilla Nkrumah Peprah assured the public that the police are committed to maintaining law and order. The arrests bring the total number of suspects detained in connection with post-election disturbances to 106, all of whom are undergoing due legal processes.
She reiterated their commitment to protecting communities and maintaining law and order.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested nine suspects in connection with the certain ablaze of the Electoral Commission Office at Ayensuano in the eastern region. This arrest brings the total number of suspects so far arrested in connection with the post-election disturbances to 106, all of whom are currently undergoing due legal processes,'' she stated.
“We wish to once again assure the public that the police and the other security agencies are committed to the protection of our communities to maintain law and order,'' she added.
