Arms Runner and Robbery Kingpin Jailed 10 Years
Upper West Region, Ghana – 13 August, 2025 – A significant development in the fight against crime has taken place in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Mohammed Ali, a resident of the area, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor for possession of firearms and robbery-related offenses.
The case against Mohammed Ali began on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, when he was involved in a fatal motor accident at Bugubelle. Responding police officers discovered incriminating evidence at the accident site, including ammunition and an offensive weapon. This discovery led to further investigation and ultimately, Ali's arrest.
Upon interrogation, Ali admitted to being aware of the items found in his possession and confessed to having knowledge of ongoing robberies in the municipality. He also identified other accomplices who are currently at large. As a result, Ali was charged with robbery, preparation to commit crime to wit robbery, and possession of a firearm without lawful authority.
On Monday, August 11, 2025, His Honor Jonathan Avoogo sentenced Mohammed Ali to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor. The conviction was based on Ali's guilty plea to all charges brought against him.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend Ali's accomplices and bring them to justice. The command says it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the region encouraging anyone with information about Ali's accomplices to come forward and assist in their apprehension.
