Obuasi, Ghana - 21 Jan, 2025 - The management of Anglogold Ashanti has announced a revised reopening date for two schools in Obuasi, Ghana. The AGA School and Williams and Brew School will now resume on Monday, January 27, 2025, instead of the previously announced date of January 22.
According to the company, the decision to delay the reopening is aimed at allowing tensions to ease in the area, ensuring the safety of students, staff, and stakeholders. The move comes amid concerns about the security situation in Obuasi.
In a statement, Anglogold Ashanti revealed that management is engaging in broader consultations with relevant authorities to guarantee the safety and well-being of everyone upon their return. The company stated that they are taking a cautious approach to ensure a smooth and secure reopening of the schools.
''After careful consideration, management has decided to revise the previously announced Reopening Date of Wednesday January 22, 2025. This decision is based on the need to allow calm to fully return to Obuasi to ensure the safety of our students, staff and key stakeholders.''
''As a result, both AGA School and Williams and Brew School will now resume on Monday, January 27, 2025.
