Accra, Ghana - 30 June, 2025 - Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) after a decisive win in the national elections held on June 30, 2025.

Dwumfuor, who first took office in 2022, secured 445 votes, representing 64.49% of the total valid ballots, defeating his closest rival, Charles Yao Mawusi, who garnered 245 votes (35.51%).

The election, which saw over 800 accredited members participating across the country, also determined the other national executive positions. Rebecca Ekpe of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation emerged as Vice President, beating Mary Mensah of the Graphic Communications Group.

Suleiman Mustapha, also from the Graphic Communications Group, won the Organising Secretary position, while Zadok Kwame Gyesi took the Public Affairs Officer role.

Dwumfuor's re-election comes after a competitive campaign season, where he faced strong competition from Mawusi, a late entrant into the race. Despite the challenge, Dwumfuor's experience and track record appear to have paid off, as he secured a clear majority of the votes cast.

During his first term, Dwumfuor launched a five-year scholarship scheme with Wisconsin International University College and organized over 20 nationwide training workshops, significantly enhancing professional development for journalists. These initiatives likely contributed to his broad support among members and positioned him as the frontrunner in the polls.

The newly elected executives will serve a three-year term, and expectations are high for them to drive critical reforms and advocacy in the evolving media landscape.
