Government Declares July 4 Public Holiday
Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka is Ghana's Interior Minister

Accra, Ghana - 27 June, 2025 - The Ghanaian government has declared Friday, July 4, 2025, a public holiday, giving citizens a long weekend to relax and recharge.

Although Republic Day is traditionally celebrated on July 1, President John Dramani Mahama has used his executive powers to declare July 4 as the public holiday instead.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the declaration is in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2021 (Act 601), which gives the President the authority to declare public holidays.

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in a press release urged the general public to observe the holiday nationwide.
