GoldBod Approves 240 Gold Buying Licenses in New Regulatory Push
Accra, Ghana - 30 June, 2025 - The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has approved approximately 240 gold buying licenses, marking a significant step in enforcing a new gold licensing regime aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance in the sector according to Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on June 30, Gyamfi noted the approvals follow the expiration of the Board's June 21, 2025, transition deadline.
The licenses were issued to applicants who met the requirements for the Buyer Licence Tier One, Buyer Licence Tier Two, and Self-Financing Aggregator categories. GoldBod received over 300 applications for Tier One, 200 applications for Tier Two, and 30 applications for the Self-Financing Aggregator category.
Gyamfi noted that the Board will intensify enforcement to clamp down on unlicensed operations in line with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140). "Going forward, only entities with valid GoldBod-issued licenses will be allowed to engage in gold trading activities," he stressed.
