Ahmed Ibrahim Vows to Revitalise DRIP Project if Approved
Accra, Ghana - 21 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has pledged to prioritise the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) if confirmed by Parliament.
The programme, initiated under the previous administration, aims to enhance road networks across Ghana's districts, boosting accessibility and economic growth.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee, Mr. Ibrahim stressed the need to optimise resource utilisation and ensure the programme's substantial investment yields tangible results. He acknowledged the challenges faced by DRIP, including delays and concerns over maintenance and resource allocation.
Mr. Ibrahim underscored the programme's significance in addressing Ghana's infrastructural deficit, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas. He vowed to work collaboratively to ensure the programme's success, emphasizing the importance of proper structures, agreements, monitoring, and systems to maximise the programme's benefits.
“If given the nod, we will work together to make sure that the DRIP project is materialised because the machines were procured to improve upon district roads that were not tarred and much money was used so you cannot use such an amount and allow it to go to waste
“Whether we like it or not, the machines have been procured and we must put them to good use, therefore, there must be proper structures, proper agreement, proper monitoring and systems to make sure that we make good use of the machines that we procured,'' he added.
