We will announce our presidential candidate within the next 24-hours - GFP
Akua Donkor was the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP)

Accra, Ghana - Nov 4, 2024 - The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) is poised to announce its new presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2024 general elections within the next 24 hours.

This development comes after the passing of the party's founder and former presidential candidate, Akua Donkor.

Following Donkor's demise, the Electoral Commission issued a 10-day ultimatum for the GFP to name a replacement. Patrick Tetteh, the party's parliamentary candidate for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, revealed in an interview with Citi News that a crucial executive meeting was held on Monday, November 4, to pave the way for the formal announcement expected on Tuesday.

“Within the next 24 hours, GFP is coming out again with a press conference. The GFP is coming out to announce the presidential candidate and the vice-presidential candidate who is contesting for the 2024 election.

“We are having an executive meeting as we speak and we preparing to come out to the general public to announce the presidential and vice-presidential candidate,” he stated.

“If anybody is talking about somebody who independently has founded a political party, who is number three in the 2024 general election and you are telling me that if you want to honour such a person who has been able to fight her way to this point you want to honour her, you want her to withdraw out of this election.

“In the first way, it doesn’t speak well to me. So, it feels like it is already out of context…This is a total disrespect to GFP,” he added.
