Mahama pledges to remove betting tax
Former President John Mahama has pledged to look into alternatives to the unpopular betting tax when he regain the presidency.
Addressing concerns during the National Democatic Congress's (NDC) Youth Townhall Meeting in Accra, the party's flagbearer emphasized his determination to address important issues impacting Ghanaians.
He restated his pledge to repeal both the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) and the betting winnings tax if elected.
Mr Mahama criticized the E-Levy for failing to fulfill revenue objectives and putting residents under unwarranted financial burden.
By eliminating these taxes, he aspires to alleviate the financial burden on ordinary Ghanaians and develop a more equitable tax structure.
"We talk already say the betting when we come we will remove am. We know say this government and IMF sign agreement, ebi so they bring the betting tax but we for find alternative revenue to plug holes into it" he told the teeming crowd in vernacular.
