Altercation erupts at Salt FM as NDC Parliamentary Candidate clashes with Radio Host over defamatory claims
Agogo, Ghana - Nov 8, 2024 - Kofi Asamoah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Asante Akim North Constituency, was involved in an altercation at Agogo-based Salt FM on Thursday, November 7.
The confrontation began when Asamoah demanded a retraction and apology from Samuel Acheampong, host of the morning talk show "Anopa Busuo," over alleged defamatory statements claiming Asamoah received financial support from the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament to fund his campaign.
Asamoah's supporters alerted him to the allegations, prompting him to attempt a call-in correction during the show. When that failed, Asamoah and his supporters arrived at Salt FM, leading to a confrontation with station staff. Stephen Appiani, Salt FM's News Department Head, confirmed the incident, stating no injuries were reported, but the station filed an official police complaint
Asamoah denied arriving with thugs or weapons and threatened legal action against Salt FM. He accused the station's owner, an independent parliamentary candidate, of exploiting the platform to tarnish his image.
Asamoah seeks to unseat incumbent MP Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, who represents the New Patriotic Party.
