Bawumia is shamelessly propounding illogical positions, there is no need for a debate - Kwakye Ofosu
Accra, Ghana - October 16, 2024 - Felix Kwakye Ofosu, an aide to former President John Mahama, has dismissed President Nana Akufo-Addo's challenge for Mahama to debate Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, labeling it a futile exercise.
Ofosu's comments came after Akufo-Addo urged Mahama to confront Bawumia directly, stressing the importance of open dialogue in democracy.
According to Ofosu, debating Bawumia would be "a complete waste of time" due to his history of propagating illogical and untruthful positions on economic issues. He cited examples of Bawumia's claims, such as stating that an economy that has defaulted on debt is better than one that pays its debts, and that an economy with a significantly weakened currency is superior to a more stable one.
Ofosu stated on Eyewitness News on Citi FM that engaging with someone who "thinks and reasons like this" would be pointless, as they are unwilling to acknowledge reality.
“A debate with Bawumia will be a complete waste of time because it would amount to a dialogue for the deaf. This is a man who shamelessly propounds illogical and untruthful position, even in the face of the glary sun.
“For instance, he is able to look Ghanaians in the face and tell us that an economy, which has defaulted on debt, is better than the one in which we used to pay our debts under President Mahama.
“An economy in which you need about GH¢17 now to get $1 is better than the one in which you needed GH¢4 to get a dollar. The economy which owes GH¢760 billion which we cannot pay is better than the one in which we owed only GH¢120billion; which we were able to pay.
“…So, when we have a candidate who thinks and reasons like this, it will be a complete waste of time to go and debate with him. Because he will be unwilling to move from the country of delusion to come to reality,” he added.
