NDC Opposes Rerun Directive from EC, Insists Elikplim Akurugu secured victory in Dome Kwabenya

Accra, Ghana - December 28, 2024 - A contentious directive issued by Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) has ignited a fierce debate, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vehemently opposing the decision.

The EC's call for a rerun of elections at the Abokobi Women's Development Centre 2 polling station in the Dome/Kwabenya constituency has been met with strong resistance from the NDC, who insist their candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, has already secured a clear victory.

At the heart of the controversy lies the absence of a pink sheet, a critical document summarizing polling station results, from the Abokobi Women's Development Centre 2 polling station. Despite the EC's efforts to address the issue, the NDC remains unconvinced, citing a significant lead of 1,154 votes for their candidate.

Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, criticized the EC's handling of the situation, accusing them of errors in their calculations.

“There was a difference of 1,154 votes, and so if today we are having a problem with one polling station, that polling station should be taken out. The voter population for that polling station is 689, so when you deduct 689 from 1,154, your guess is as good as mine,” he stated.

“These people have issues with arithmetic, and so we will do the calculation for them. They should hold their horses because Elikplim has won the election, and we will not accept their so-called rerun,'' he added.
