Martha Ankomah-Lilwin Defamation Case: Court sets November 5 hearing date

Accra, Ghana -  October 16, 2024 - Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, is set to face trial in a GH¢5 million defamation lawsuit filed by actress Martha Ankomah.

The High Court in Accra announced on October 15, 2024, that proposals for an out-of-court settlement had failed, paving the way for the case to proceed to trial.

Lilwin was sued by Martha Ankomah over allegedly disparaging comments he made about her in public. The actress is seeking GH¢5 million in damages, compensatory and aggravated damages, an apology, a retraction, and an injunction against further defamatory statements.

In July 2024, the High Court was informed of a possible settlement, leading to an adjournment. However, Lilwin's lawyers have now indicated that he is not ready for settlement.

Case Background

- Defamation Allegations: Lilwin allegedly made derogatory comments about Martha Ankomah in a viral video.
- Damages Sought: GH¢5 million, compensatory and aggravated damages, apology, retraction, and injunction.
- Initial Settlement Attempt: High Court informed of possible settlement in July 2024.
- Current Status: Case adjourned to November 5, 2024, for hearing.

Justice Forson Agyapong Baah has adjourned the case to November 5, 2024, for hearing. The failure of settlement talks means that the case will now proceed to trial, potentially setting a precedent for defamation cases in Ghana's entertainment industry.
