Election 2024: IGP Dampare calls for peaceful elections, warns against lawlessness
Eastern Region, Ghana - Nov 18, 2024 - Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has sounded a clear warning to potential troublemakers ahead of Ghana's December elections.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new police station in Akyem-Manso, Eastern Region, Dr. Dampare made it clear that anyone engaging in electoral misconduct will face the full force of the law.
Dr. Dampare cautioned citizens against being exploited for disruptive activities, emphasizing that those who lure others into chaos often abandon them when arrested.
He urged citizens to exercise their voting rights peacefully, respecting the democratic process and others' rights.
Police Readiness
The IGP reassured Ghanaians of the police service's preparedness to ensure peaceful elections, outlining measures to detect and address early warning signs of potential unrest.
“Don’t be lured into creating confusion during the polls because my people will not spare you. Don’t forget that the people who will lure you to create confusion will switch off their phones when you are arrested. They will simply abandon you,” he warned.
"We are fully prepared, and I can assure you that the elections will be peaceful," Dr. Dampare affirmed, calling on all Ghanaians to support efforts to uphold the electoral process's integrity.
This stern warning comes as Ghana prepares for critical elections, with tensions running high. Dr. Dampare's assurance of a secure environment for free and fair elections aims to alleviate concerns and promote a peaceful democratic process.
