Ghanaians voted for change, pack your things and leave jubilee house - Sammy Gyamfi tells NPP
Ghana's main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared victory in the country's presidential and parliamentary elections.
The party's National Communications Director, Sammy Gyamfi, made the announcement at a press briefing on Sunday Dec 7, urging the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to concede defeat and vacate the presidency.
"I am happy to inform the good people of Ghana that from the results we have seen so far from our internal collation, it is clear that Ghanaians have rejected eight years of corruption, eight years of incompetence, eight years of state capture, eight years of nepotism and cronyism, eight years of waste and eight of insensitivity and arrogance and they have given the NDC resounding victory," he said.
He urged the NPP to accept defeat and vacate the state office to allow the new NDC government to assume office in early 2025.
“You have lost, and it is time to pack your things and leave Jubilee House,” he said at the press conference.
According to Gyamfi, the NDC's victory is evident in the provisional results, which show the party leading in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. He appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to expedite the announcement of the official results to prevent further unrest.
“Please, Madam (EC Chairperson), do the needful, and direct your officers to fast-track the process,” Sammy Gyamfi urged.
Gyamfi's call for a peaceful transition comes amid reports of clashes between supporters of the NDC and NPP in some constituencies, resulting in at least one fatality and several injuries.
The NDC has also urged civil society organizations, including the media, to intervene and encourage the EC to announce the election outcome promptly.
