Voters Register: NDC withholds evidence of discrepancies, says it is not strategic to reveal full gamut to EC
Accra, Ghana - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has adopted a cautious approach in sharing discrepancies identified in the electoral process with the Electoral Commission (EC).
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, NDC's Director of Elections and IT, revealed that the party is strategically withholding some information for a more calculated approach.
At the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1, Dr. Boamah acknowledged the EC's acceptance of three out of five presented evidence pieces.
However, the EC provided explanations for the remaining discrepancies, which Dr. Boamah deemed as selective acceptance.
"That is one of the reasons – it is not strategic to provide the Electoral Commission with the full gamut of what we have,” he said.
The NDC's concerns were further heightened by the EC's failure to address a specific case involving Ernest Ofori, a voter who had completed a vote transfer.
In light of these issues, Dr. Boamah reiterated the NDC's demand for a forensic audit of the voter register and the EC's IT systems to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming elections.
“So the PVR that we were given, if you analyse them, would you have arrived at the same conclusion? The answer is yes. As you try to rationalize after having the information, what you forget is that you are assembling what you did not provide political parties with to rationalize. Because of the coefficient of bias which is very high, there is the need for a forensic audit of the register which is being fixed,'' he added.
