Ghana's Peaceful Transition to Begin on Dec 11,  Akufo-Addo Invites Mahama to Jubilee House

Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo has extended an olive branch to President-elect John Mahama, inviting him to Jubilee House for a meeting on December 11. This gesture marks the beginning of the transition process, following the Electoral Commission's declaration of Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election.

In a statement, President Akufo-Addo congratulated Mahama on his 'decisive victory', pledging to ensure a smooth handover of power on January 7, 2025. He expressed his commitment to working collaboratively with Mahama's team to achieve this goal, emphasizing his dedication to Ghana's democratic principles.

The President also commended the Electoral Commission, led by Jean Mensa, and the Ghanaian people for their roles in ensuring a credible and successful electoral process. He attributed this achievement to the collective efforts and participation of all stakeholders, showcasing Ghana's democratic maturity.

As the transition period begins, the meeting on December 11 will set the framework for a cooperative effort between the outgoing administration and the incoming government. President Akufo-Addo expressed optimism about the process, noting its importance in ensuring stability and continuity for the nation.

“I look forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal,” the President stated, reaffirming his commitment to a peaceful and seamless transfer of power,'' he stated.

“This successful election reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy.

“I call on all Ghanaians to unite and work together to build a stronger, more resilient Ghana.

“I remain committed to the principles of good governance and a peaceful transition that will further strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa,” he added.
