We Could Request IMF Funding If Need Arises, But I Never Said We Would - Ato Forson
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is the Finance Minister Designate

Accra, Ghana - 13 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has clarified his stance on seeking additional funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stating that his previous comments were misrepresented in the media.

Speaking before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dr. Forson emphasized that he never said the government would request additional IMF funding, but rather that it could be an option if circumstances warrant it. He stressed that his remarks were speculative and contingent on future developments.

Dr. Forson urged the media to exercise caution when reporting his statements to avoid public misinterpretation. He reaffirmed his commitment to prudent financial management and pledged to explore all viable options to ensure economic stability for Ghana.

"I didn’t say I was going to request additional finance from the IMF," he stated. "It’s inaccurate reportage. What I said was that we could request additional finance if the need arises."

This clarification comes amid speculation about Ghana's economic strategy, particularly regarding its ongoing programme with the IMF.
