Governance is Not About Borrowing, It's Time to Cut the Waste - Ato Forson
Accra, Ghana - 13 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has vowed to crack down on wasteful government spending, emphasizing the need for fiscal discipline and efficient use of state resources.
Speaking before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dr. Forson stressed that Ghana's economic stability hinges on eliminating unnecessary expenditures and ensuring that resources are utilized judiciously.
Dr. Forson's commitment to fiscal responsibility marks a significant shift in the country's financial management priorities, with a renewed focus on accountability and sustainability.
He acknowledged the importance of collaborating with development partners to secure affordable financing when needed, while maintaining his primary focus on reducing waste.
“Governance is not about borrowing and borrowing. It’s time to cut the waste, and I’ll lead the charge,'' he stated.
As a seasoned economist and chartered accountant, Dr. Forson brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as Deputy Minister for Finance under President John Dramani Mahama's administration.
